Month: June 2015

My Sunday photo

We’ve had a bit of a quiet week here in Swansea.  Rhys fell and bumped his mouth on Monday, resulting in a trip to the doctor and the dentist (who both say he’s fine, luckily!) and a few days off school for him to get over the shock and get back to normal.

So we’ve spent a fair bit of time just at home; baking, playing, generally just slowing down for a few days.  Which means that I’ve slowed down a bit with my photography, taking time to play around with the light in my house and take some at-home portraits of both my children.

This photo of Nerys is one of my favourites from the week.  I love the softness that comes from the backlighting, and the hint of a smile in her eyes and on her lips!

Here’s hoping we have a less eventful week next week!

Mattu family – Beloved photo session, Clyne Gardens, Swansea

Mattu family – Beloved photo session, Clyne Gardens, Swansea

Have you been to Clyne Gardens recently?  If you’re in Swansea you should head there for a walk as soon as  you get the chance, it’s just alive at the moment!

I met up with the Mattu family there a few weeks ago and we spent a lovely couple of hours wandering round, venturing down windy paths and discovering all the little bridges that are dotted around.  The plan for their photo session was to get some natural photos of them just being themselves, and to then have some fun with some Beloved games and invites.

I find that this approach to a Beloved session works wonderfully; everyone has a chance to relax and get used to the camera, and then we get some lovely moments with the Beloved invites!  And when I say everyone has a chance to relax, I’m including myself this time because I was submitting images from this session for my assessment at the end of my Beloved training!

So, onto the photos!  There are quite a few from this session, I just love them so much I wanted to share them all!

In case I had you in suspense while looking through all those, yes, I did successfully complete the course with these photos!  So thank you very much to the Mattu family for being such fantastic muses!

If you’d like to discuss booking a session then I’d love to hear from you!  You can get in touch with me here.

Nerys’ first year

Nerys’ first year

I posted a photo last week for #FlashbackFriday of Nerys when she was tiny; she looks so different now she’s 15 months old!  That photo was from a series that I took throughout her first year, one every month.  I wanted to record her first year a bit more intentionally than I did with Rhys, so I decided to lie her down on her blanket every month and take a ‘head shot’ style photo.

I’m so happy with the results!  I love seeing how much she changed during that first year.

If you’d like to see more photos from her first year, I posted some others on my blog in the post 12 months of Nerys.

Did you do something similar for your baby?  I’d love to hear about it if you did!

Family portrait project – April 2015

Family portrait project – April 2015

I’m slowly getting caught up with editing and sharing my photos from this year’s personal photography project.  Each month I’m taking a ‘family portrait’ of some description, so that at the end of the year I’ll have a collection of photos that really represent us and our year.  I’m trying to come up with a different idea each month so that I don’t just end up with 12 standard portraits come December.

So with April’s photos I’m aiming to show our personalities and interests a little bit by photographing the books we were reading that month!

Not too hard to guess which book belonged to which member of the family!

My Sunday photo

I have a confession.  I find ‘swing’ shots ever so slightly tricky!  So when I get one with the focus just where I want it I’m incredibly happy!  Whenever we go to the park Nerys tends to head straight for the swings and will happily sit there for ages watching the big kids play as she swings back and forth.  Apart from the times that she wants to get out and get in other swing.  You know, the one right next to the one she was just in.  The one exactly the same as the one she was just in.  Funny girl!

I love this photo in black and white, strangely I think it brings her eyes out!  If you want to see a colour version (and a few more photos from our trip to the park) I’ve shared it on my other blog – This Glorious Life.

Here’s to many more sunny days at the park this summer!  What do your children head straight for when you go?

Flashback Friday

I was digging around in a box of old photos the other day and came across this print that I had completely forgotten about.  It’s of my Grandparents and was taken back in 2003.  The more I look at it the more I love it; the smile on Granny’s face that’s just so ‘her’, the like of almost pride on Papa’s face and the little details like the house number showing behind them.  That bungalow is where I always picture them.  It’s the home we visited them in so many times as children.  I love that this photo includes their environment, it just represents them so perfectly to me.
Granny and Papa have both passed away now, and so photos like these mean all the more.  I know it’s been said many times before, but I truly feel that taking photos is so very important.  And even more important; making sure that YOU exist in photos too.  So go grab your camera this weekend. set the timer on it if you have to and get in some photos!

One day your grandchildren will be so thankful.
