Project 365

This was a busy week of puzzles (some of which were done upside down!), playing with new toys, a wonderful trip to the Isle of Man, a fantastic wedding (congratulations to Phil and Andrea!), time spent with family, extended family and friends and hair curled by the humidity of a hottub!

Things to do in Swansea this weekend – 4/5 May 2013

We’re in the Isle of Man this weekend for my brother-in-law’s wedding but for those of you in Swansea there’s loads of stuff going on, especially with it being a bank holiday weekend.

The National Waterfront museum has got all sorts of activities over the weekend.  To kick things off they’ve got Merry May’s vintage and handmade Emporium on Saturday between 10 and 4.  Entry is free and there’ll be clothes and accessories from as early as the 1930s as well as vintage-inspired items.  Kitsch n Sync collective will be providing the entertainment.  It sounds like so much fun!

Throughout the weekend you can take part in their ‘hunt the clog’ trail.  Each day over the weekend between 11 and 4 you can pop in for free and see if you can find all the welsh clogs that have been hidden around the museum!

And on Monday they’re showing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at 2pm.  A true classic!

If you’re in the mood for a film with a bit more action then check out the pop up cinema at Ynystawe Park.  They’re showing Transformers on Saturday at 8.00pm.  Tickets are £3 and you can book here.

If you fancy a family day out on Bank holiday Monday then the Classic Car Show and Family funday is on between 10 and 4 at Singleton Park.  For more information have a look at the Swansea Sound website.

Project 365

A bit of a Rhys-heavy week this week for my project 365.  But then this was the week that he turned 2 so I think I can be forgiven!  This was also a week of celebrating St George’s day, baking and munching on chocolate cake, exciting new toys and big smiles!

Maternity portrait session, Swansea                                          Swansea maternity portrait photographer

Last November I met up with Kim and Andy (and their dog Kira) in Singleton Park, Swansea for Kim’s maternity portrait session.  We managed to catch a break in the rain and go for a walk round the park.

Starting a session with an activity, even something as simple as going for a stroll, can be a great way to relax and get used to having your photo taken.  Kim and Andy had a chance to have a chat, Kira could have a run around and I got some lovely shots of the natural interactions between them.  Win-win-win!
We managed to sneak in a few posed shots before Kira dog wanted to play again.  She didn’t have a clue why Kim and Andy kept making her wait but she was so patient!
Then we had time for a bit more of a walk before the heavens opened and we retreated to the Uplands Diner for a cooked breakfast.  Not a bad way to spend a few hours!
Photos of their lovely baby boy coming soon!

In the meantime, Singleton park will be coming to life soon (hopefully!) and is a lovely location for portrait sessions in Swansea.  If you’d like to discuss booking with me please get in touch here or send me a message via my Facebook page!

Things to do in Swansea this weekend – 27/28 April 2013

If you’ve got little ones between 18 months and 5 years and are around on Friday then you can take them to the National Waterfront Museum where Holibods are holding a Waterfront Nippers session.  The theme this time is ‘In the garden’ and is bound to be a lot of creative fun!

If you can’t make the Friday session and have school age children then you can book a place to see what Artibods (part of Holibods) have got to offer at a workshop on Saturday.  Sessions are at 10.30 and 1.30 in Bethel Chapel on Carnglas Road, Sketty.  Sessions are £5 per child (adults have to stay with the children but can join in for free!) and the theme this time is ‘Imagination, Dreams and strange lands’ which is an introduction to surrealism!  You can find more information and contact them via the website or their Facebook page.

If you’re not a creative type then you can check out the Gorseinon Food Festival instead!  It’s on Saturday at Canolfan Gorseinon Centre and costs £3 (under 12s get in for free).  There’ll be 120 stalls selling all sorts of local tasty treats and crafts as well as cookery demonstrations, entertainment and music.  Oh and the local park and ride is free too, bargain!

This is what 2 looks like!

My little boy turns 2 today, which is just unbelievable.  Where has the time gone?!  These past 2 years have been wonderful, exciting, exhausting and just amazing.
So what is Rhys like now he’s two?

He is really affectionate and loves giving cuddles and sitting on laps.  He’ll try and sit on his baby cousin’s lap given half a chance!

He is a big fan of Numberjacks and Peppa Pig and really loves Postman Pat which makes me very happy because that was one of my favourites as a kid.  Although I’ve only just found out that Pat’s surname is Clifton; who knew?!

Picture

He is stubborn.  My word he is stubborn.
Can’t think where he gets that from!

This is him wanting to go to the swings and not the ducks.  He didn’t scream and shout to get his own way.  Just sat down in a silent protest.

‘Strong-willed’ is the expression Mamie used, which is a little bit nicer than stubborn!

He is a lift-out puzzle ninja.  Seriously, he can do them quicker than I can!

He loves counting to 10 and is having great fun learning his letters.

He likes to line things up and can be very precise about it!

He is a really physical, active boy.  Oh, he is such a boy!  He loves to run and jump and climb.  I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t get to Brynmill Park as much as I do to let him burn off energy!
He is fun, happy, chatty, tiring, bright, strong, crazy and loving.  And I’m so excited to see what the next year with him will bring!

Newborn portrait session part 2, Llantwit Major                   Swansea newborn baby portrait photographer

Here are the last of the images from Dewi’s newborn portrait session.  I love these pictures so much!  Just look at that eye contact with his Daddy; so beautiful!
More pictures of those beautiful eyes.  Not a chance he was going to give in and go to sleep!  I don’t mind a bit when the result is pictures like these!
Look at that smile!
Menna made the fab bunting herself; isn’t it gorgeous?!  She has a few handmade items on sale at the moment at Hubbard’s cupboard in Cardiff.  But if you’d like something similar made just for you then give her a shout at menna_llinos@hotmail.com!

Things to do in Swansea this weekend – 20/21 April 2013

There are a couple of things going on in Swansea this coming weekend if you’re looking for something different to do.

The LC is hosting the Natural Living Expo which will feature exhibitor stands, yummy vegetarian food, taster sessions of alternative therapies and free demonstrations, talks and workshops.  The expo opens at 10am on Saturday and it’s free to get in.

If you’ve been doing some spring cleaning and have a pile of books or cds that you’re bored of then why not head down to the National Waterfront for the book swap event.  It’s on Saturday and Sunday between 11 and 4.  You might find a whole new pile of books to fill up your freshly de-cluttered home!

Tiny hands and tiny feet                                                            Swansea newborn baby portrait photographer

“There’s really nothing quite so sweet, as tiny little baby feet”

I love baby feet, and hands, and oh the little chubby rolls on their arms and legs!  Shots like these are such a nice way to capture those newborn features that they seem to grow out of so quickly.  These are a few more from Dewi’s newborn portrait session; he gave me so much to work with!
Simon made a special request to take the picture below; Daddy and Dewi’s first recorded fist-bump!  Inspired by an image I saw on Pinterest but I can’t find where it originated to give due credit.
